Hifiman designed the first nanometer-thick diaphragm to be used in planar magnetic headphones. A unique asymmetrical planar driver delivers almost flawless sound reproduction. Also, a special open-back technology known as their “window shade” system was utilized to provide a more direct and full sound to the listener.

The original velour earpads of the HE-1000 were changed to polyester which increases the sound transparency. Bass response has also been significantly improved with a firmer seal around the ears. Comparable to the STAX earspeakers, these headphones possess an immensely detailed soundstage that provides the listener with a world of emotion.
